Tower of the Winds

London

A competition entry for a treehouse at Kew Gardens.

The treehouse’s formal language takes reference from Kew’s Pagoda, completed in 1762, offering one of the earliest bird’s eye views of London. Similarly, once inside the new Tower, one can enjoy views across the gardens by looking through a periscope located at ground level or enjoy the framed views of the Norway Maple tree. The tower-like design consists of seven sections which correspond to the idea that a pagoda should have an odd number of floors (traditionally seven to represent the seven steps to heaven).
